Brief Description & Job Description: An established tree service company is seeking a skilled and experienced Ground Support Worker to join our crew. The Ground Worker provides support duties for the crew and crew leader as assigned. Responsibilities include loading and unloading of saws and gear, basic saw and gear maintenance, conducting vehicle inspections, dumping trucks and trailers, and maintaining a clean, organized, and properly stocked work vehicle.
A Ground Worker assists in safeguarding the public and fellow workers from work-related hazards by using cones, signage, caution tape, and barriers as required.
Ground Worker performs all ground duties as assigned, including moving targets from the work site and drop zone(s), protecting customer property, safely fueling saws, setting up ladders, port-a-wraps, and installing the crew’s climbing and rigging lines as required.
Ground Worker assists from the ground using handsaws, pole saws, and pruners safely and only as assigned.
Ground Worker must maintain frequent voice communication with the crew leader and climbers to coordinate the rigging of branches and wood, lowering wood and debris in a safe and controlled manner at all times.
Ground Worker must know how to safely tie saws, pruners, rigging lines, and blocks for the climber’s use in the tree.
Ground Worker must be a reliable member of the crew, responsive to visual cues and hand signals from the climber while acting promptly as ground support.
Ground Worker must keep each job site work area clear of wood and debris, cleaning up limbs and branches as they are cut from the tree, staging branches and wood appropriately for loading and chipping.
Ground Worker is responsible for removing all debris from each worksite, including branches, leaves, and sawdust from surrounding plants, trees, roofs, eaves, and yards using rakes, blowers, etc.
Ground Worker must be able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions, must be punctual, reliable, and able to follow written and verbal instructions and orders.
Ground Worker, when assigned, must have the ability to properly use equipment and machinery such as chainsaws, wood chippers, and stump grinders safely and competently at all times.
Applicants must have at least 1 year of relevant experience in the tree care/arboriculture industry.
A valid G2 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract is required.
A valid DZ license is an asset.
Previous experience driving pick-up truck(s) with trailer/equipment.
